YsOU Chamber music lab: rebuilding self-strength of Ukrainian youth

Vision of the project

The YsOU Chamber Music Lab: Rebuilding Self-Strength of Ukrainian Youth was created for the musicians of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (YsOU). Its purpose was to educate young Ukrainian musicians and encourage cross-cultural cooperation between Ukraine, Spain, and Germany through music, while also fostering Ukrainian culture internationally. The project aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and promote peace through the transformative and communicative power of music, as well as to ease the emotional and cultural rebuilding process for those affected by the war.

Key results included fostering international reflection on Ukraine’s situation and integrating Ukrainian culture into the European creative sector. The project empowered young Ukrainians for recovery and ultimately for the rebuilding of Ukraine. It enhanced the professional skills and cultural diversity awareness of YsOU musicians, increased the visibility of Ukrainian culture abroad, and highlighted the contributions of Ukrainian music and composers.

The initiative raised awareness about the Russian war in Ukraine and strengthened cultural ties between the participating countries. It featured the premiere of two significant chamber music pieces by Ukrainian composers reflecting on the war, involving young Ukrainian artists and professional musicians in Spain and Germany. Additionally, it promoted and utilised the positive effects of music to rebuild and create connections between displaced Ukrainians and the various communities in Spain and Germany.

Meet the Key Partner

NGO Cultural platform is a legal platform for the Youth symphony orchestra of Ukraine/YsOU, unites young musicians aged 12 to 22 nationwide, annually conducts rehearsal camps, concert tours, master classes and chamber music projects for all its members. The mission is to develop young talent and promote classical music's values, including cultural diversity and tolerance. Since 2017 YOU has developed strong partnerships, among others with the National Youth Orchestra of Germany, European Union Youth Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, German Opera Berlin, Duisburg Philharmonic, Festival Young Artists Bayreuth, Festival of classical music LvivMozArt. Among the last projects: international concert tours to Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland (2022-2023), project 'LOST CHILDHOOD, under the patronage of Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, at the Centre for Fine Arts, Bozar in Brussels (2023).
