Vision of the project

The project was founded by Karas Gallery in 2006 as an initiative to break down technical barriers between artists and viewers. By limiting the tools to a simple sheet of A4 office paper and a basic ballpoint pen, the project eliminated excuses such as "I could do this, but I don’t have the right canvas, brushes, or paints." It equalised the rights and possibilities of all participants, restricting them to only the most basic materials, ensuring that only experience and worldview could distinguish a true master. The inclusivity of the project was key to its long-term popularity, continually attracting new participants.

The project highlighted the beauty and intellectual elegance of each artist’s contributions while serving as a timeline of the subconscious evolution of Ukrainian artists over nearly two decades.

By presenting and studying the retrospective development of modern Ukrainian art through the lens of this large-scale project, "A4, Ballpoint Pen" provided an ideal way to introduce Ukraine’s little-known artistic heritage to a global audience. The exhibition featured the results of the latest open call and, for the first time, included participatory elements of performance, music, and vocal arts. Approximately 1,000 drawings were displayed.

Our team is actively involved in the development, implementation and development of numerous cultural and artistic projects and initiatives at local and international levels. Now, one of the main goals of our activity is the popularization of Ukrainian culture and modern Ukrainian art in Ukraine and abroad. Support of the culture today - is an investment in the future.
The main thesis in the activity of the organization is the affirmation of the fact that culture creates the future! After all, we all identify ourselves through cultural codes.
