ICAO Carbon Emissions Calculator (ICEC)

The only internationally approved tool for estimating carbon emissions from air travel, developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) — the UN specialised agency for civil aviation — through its Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP).

The carbon emmision calculator applies a globally harmonised methodology, drawing on industry data such as aircraft type, route-specific fuel burn, passenger load factors, and cargo carried, to calculate CO₂ emissions across four cabin classes (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, First) for both passenger and freighter flights. It is accessible as a free web calculator and via an API for integration into other reporting systems, and includes a dedicated version for UN organisations.

As a rigorous, standardised methodology behind the flight-emissions figures that most other calculators reference, it is a directly relevant technical resource for Green Mobility in Arts and Culture webinar's discussion of green mobility decision-making and carbon tracking — offering organisations a credible, authoritative source for calculating the air-travel component of their own carbon footprint.
