Sound Experiences of War: An Exhibition and a Public Program was a project focused on sound art, aimed at exploring and understanding changes in the sound environment and perception. The purpose of the project was to combine sound recordings and live broadcasts from various Ukrainian cities in one space. By using artistic tools, the project aimed to facilitate the recovery process through joint proceedings and narratives of traumatic experiences.
As part of the project, there was an exhibition of sound artworks at different locations in Lviv, including the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life named after Klimenty Sheptytsky, the Municipal Art Center, the House of Sounds (Prince Roman, 6), and the house at Market Square 42. Additionally, a sound environment was created from different parts of Ukraine, involving up to 20 artists who formed a unique sound network of Ukraine during the war.
The project also planned to discuss the role of sound in recovery processes with a wide audience, including art specialists in art, psychology, and ecology; artists who work with sound or are interested in this area in their own practice; and visitors to exhibition sites and the public programme. The public programme aimed to address issues around the sound landscape in the process of restoration and the formation of a vision for post-war development, specifically how to adhere to an ecological sound environment in cities to ensure comfort for society. The project was the result of cooperation between two organisations: NGO "The Right Things" and NGO "Institute of Actual Art".
