Plan.Action.Fundamentals

Vision of the project

The project aimed to create opportunities for teenagers to develop a comprehensive, dynamic vision of Ukraine's recovery by engaging with recent history and fostering intergenerational dialogue. International experience highlighted that working with memory is an integral part of reconstruction. For a generation shaped by the war, understanding the country’s trajectory was seen as essential to self-realisation and the development of civic identity. One key setting for these efforts was school shelters, where, in regions like Zakarpattia, students spent 80 hours or more during the last school year.

The project sought to rethink these spaces by encouraging students and teachers to engage in interdisciplinary dialogues about resilience and recovery through the lens of recent history. Artistic and educational practices were combined to develop a series of graphic stories (posters) illustrating key events from independent Ukraine's history. These visually engaging historical representations aimed to capture students’ attention and serve as starting points for meaningful discussions.

Pilot discussions were held at Voznesensk School No. 5, and based on the outcomes, methodological advice for teachers was developed. These guidelines helped direct students from analysing history to envisioning the country’s recovery and development, addressing questions such as: What do we expect from reconstruction? What lessons from recent history can we rely on? What should we consider, avoid, and learn from others?

The developed series of posters and recommendations were presented at a public offline and online event. At least 100 educators participated in online training sessions on dialogue moderation and received sets of printed posters for use in their schools. The materials were also made available online. These dialogues contributed to strengthening resilience, shaping civic identity, and inspiring joint reconstruction projects at the local level. They encouraged young people to understand their role in the recovery process, explore their place in society, and consider career paths aligned with rebuilding Ukraine.
