The French Institute in Romania

Under the tutelage of the Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs (Ministère de l'Europe et des affaires étrangères), the French Institute in Romania (IFR) belongs to the French cultural network abroad. IFR's mission is to promote cultural, linguistic and university cooperation, cooperation with institutions and representatives of civil society. Created in 2012, the Institute has, in addition to its headquarters in Bucharest, three branches in Cluj-Napoca, lasi and Timisoara and also fulills the missions of the Service de Coopération et d'Action Culturelle of the French Embassy. In Bucharest, IFR hosts the Elvire Popesco cinema, which, thanks to a rich offer of French and European films included in its programming, is one of the most appreciated cinema scenes in Romania. The French Institute in Romania is a supporting partner in the project, not an implementing partner.
